What is a VPN browser? Private browsing versus VPN

A VPN browser, an incognito window and a device VPN are different tools. Learn to check traffic coverage and the limits of session cleanup.

Check the function, not just the name

VPN browser can describe different products: a service that routes browser traffic, a browser used alongside a separate VPN, or simply a private session mode. The name does not establish that other apps on your phone are covered. Check which traffic is included and how the connection is started.

The limit of a private session

Private browsing mainly concerns session information retained on the device. It does not itself create a network-level VPN tunnel. Chrome’s official explanation also says that Incognito does not make a user invisible online. Signing into an account or submitting information can still allow a website to recognise you.

HarmanVPN Private Browser

HarmanVPN Private Browser is a temporary browsing space inside the app. For VPN protection, establish an active VPN connection from the home screen first; opening the browser alone is not a replacement for that connection. Treat session cleanup and network tunnelling as separate features.

Practical habits

End your browsing session through the normal closing flow. Do not assume that a downloaded file or a page opened outside the browser is covered by the same cleanup process. Whatever browser mode you use, check website addresses and share sensitive information only with services you trust.
